GIRL WITH A CHEETAH
MARIAMU BYADUNIA
Mariamu is a young woman who arrived at Kakuma Refugee Camp
entirely on her own. Overwhelmed by loneliness and uncertainty,
she found comfort and strength through her bond with the animals
in the camp.
This accomplished artwork portrays a child and her protector
animal, symbolising the deep connection and sense of safety
Mariamu discovered in an unpredictable and often frightening
world. Through her art, she expresses how this bond with the camp
animals helped her rebuild a feeling of protection, trust and
belonging.
