SCARCITY YIEN DAK
SCARCITY
YIEN DAK
In this bleak and haunting painting, the arid landscape stretches
endlessly, devoid of life or growth. In the foreground, a lone figure
weeps, there is simply nothing to eat. Beside them, two buckets tell
their own story: the water can is sealed with a heavy lock, the other
weighed down by a large stone to prevent anyone from taking the
precious contents.
This stark imagery reflects the harsh reality in Kakuma since cuts,
where every grain must be guarded, every drop of water
safeguarded, a daily struggle for survival in a place where hunger is constant.
