Empathy and understanding
The answer to a better world
Is easier than you think,
Always walk in another’s shoes;
Pick up their cup and drink;
Eat from their home-made loaf to taste –
The flavours they live with;
Feel the thickness of their coat –
And ask them “what’s your myth?”;
Where do they feel safe and sound?
Take a walk along their path;
Feel the heat of their longest day;
And know what makes them laugh;
Read their books, and say their prayers;
Call their doctor for a pill;
Go to their school; live in their house;
Roll a rock up their high hill.
That’s a beginning – to fathom
Anything; to contemplate;
To get to grips with any problem.
Then we can mediate.
