Celebrating a Unique Collaboration
We are delighted to welcome renowned portrait artist Alastair Barford to the Kakuma Art Project. Alastair, who has painted both King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II, is now turning his attention to capturing the stories of our refugee artists.
So far, he has completed three portraits, each one honouring the resilience and creativity of artists living in Kakuma Refugee Camp. These powerful works were unveiled as part of our first exhibition, The Power of One Painting, held at The Vanner Gallery in Salisbury.
Alastair’s portraits stand alongside the refugee artists’ own paintings, creating a dialogue between lived experience and artistic interpretation — a celebration of courage, creativity, and shared humanity.

Supporting Education in Kakuma
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we recently raised funds to build a protective fence around an orphan daycare centre in Kakuma, as well as a much-needed toilet facility for the students and teachers. These improvements have already made the centre safer, more hygienic, and more welcoming for the children who attend.

But our work doesn’t stop here. We are continuing to fundraise for a new classroom space — one with a strong cement floor that will provide a cleaner, more durable learning environment. With your help, we can give these children a brighter, more secure place to learn and grow.
👉 Join us in making this happen — every contribution takes us one step closer to transforming their classroom. DONATE to our Just Giving and put SCHOOL in your message.
